As someone not previously considered a cat person, Colony Cat Cafe has certainly altered my views towards the feline. Located just at the border of Downtown and the Strip District (meaning it’s a too-easy walk from anywhere in Downtown), Pittsburgh’s first cat cafe features three of my favorite things in life: coffee, wine, and adorable animals.
The best part? All of the cats and kittens featured are ready to be adopted to their forever home through a partnership with Animal Friends. We were lucky enough to visit the cat loft during some down time for a preview, and spending 20 minutes with two especially cool cats – Chai and Java – made for the best lunch break I’ve had all week…
Once seated, the service was quick, and the food was a very tasty upscale twist on American fare. And with over 90 beers and ciders on tap – including many from Pittsburgh – it was easy to not only find something that complemented our plates, but also try something new. My personal recommendation: the Duck Confit Nachos which seemed to accomplish the impossible task of having every nacho loaded with the correct amount of food, and nary a naked nacho seen on the plate.
Open for lunch and dinner everyday, plan your visit to City Works by visiting their website here…
